So after days of searching and testing and checking logs, I found a page that mentions a similar problem with the big 8.1 update that was recently released and that it could have problems installing if you have a VPN program installed. Everything was fine but this is a large update with a bunch of stuff in it so I need to get it installed or I am sure it will be one of those that prevents a later update.

On reboot it would go to 80% of finishing the install and then say it failed and revert the system. It would do a normal install and require a reboot. I prefer they be stable over squeezing any extra performance from them.Įverything has been great on these machines until this update came out.

Both are standard Intel Core i5 machines with Windows 8.1 Pro or Enterprise (home and work respectively) and minimal tweaking, just your normal wallpaper, screen savers, that kind of thing.
